About Us

Thornton Wright Equine is a proudly independent equine ambulatory practice based at Fairfield Stud, Willoughton, in Lincolnshire. As a continuation of Thornton Equine, established in 2017 by Dr. Nick Bowen MRCVS, Thornton Wright Equine continues a legacy of providing accessible, modern clinical excellence whilst upholding traditional practice values.

Dr. Rowan Wright MRCVS embarked on the partnership in 2023 to offer additional knowledge and expertise and is equally committed to ensuring that Thornton Wright Equine continues to be the veterinary provider of choice in the area for professional and leisure clients alike.

Ruth Draper,
Practice Manager

Ruth has worked in many sectors of the equine industry over her 30 year career. In the late 1980’s she attained her BHSAI and went on to teach at Rednil Riding School. Ruth then furthered her experience in equine husbandry under the Burton Hunt Kennels and later went on to groom at national events for the 5* event rider Mark Todd whilst looking after a string of eventers at home for the Hood family.

A small change in direction saw Ruth as the yard manager for Straight Mile Farm Equine Hospital where she oversaw inpatient care, assisted in theatre and managed the running of the yard. After a brief spell in racing in Lambourne and some time travelling in Australia Ruth changed career and for 5 years worked in medial complaints for Abbot Laboratories Diabetes Care.

Since moving back to Lincolnshire in 2012 Ruth freelanced before joining the practice in 2017 as practice manager. She has three boys who take up most of her time but would love to have a horse of her own when time allows!

Nick O’Sullivan
Dip WCF BSc (Hons)

Nick’s passion for horses was ignited at the age of 10 when he began riding and competed up to British Eventing CCI**. After leaving school at the age of 16, Nick completed an apprenticeship in Newmarket with Will and Ed O’Shaughnessy – Farriery World Champions 2022. In 2017 as a newly qualified Dip WCF Nick set up his own business servicing the equine population in North Wales.

Almost 8 years later with a wealth of experience and knowledge behind him Nick is now providing services for a wide range of horses ranging from 5* event horses belonging to event riders Emily King and Michael Owen down to children’s shetlands and everything in-between.

Nick takes pride in his work and has a special interest in veterinary and remedial farriery utilising the very best of modern farriery techniques. As a result Nick undertook a BSc (Hons) degree in Farriery, graduating in 2023 after focusing his research project on stride biomechanics and the impact of a shod hoof vs barefoot. Following on from this achievement Nick is hoping to continue furthering his research journey by achieving his AWCF.

Nick and Rowan have worked closely together over the past few years to treat a range of conditions and we are excited to have him on board to provide a specialist consultancy service for equines in Lincolnshire.
